Days Like These is a new exhibition which shares the stories of Salford in 2020, using paintings, photographs, films and poetry contributed by some of the 245,000 residents of the city - from empty Salford streets and the joy of reuniting, to the impact on frontline workers and the challenges of being alone. The exhibition wants to reflect the hopes and fears of everyone, then and now, and after you have seen the exhibition, we hope you contribute too.
Alongside is a new display of the best of Salford’s own LS Lowry – an artist known for his paintings of crowded city streets, and vast empty landscapes.
The exhibition forms part of the Spirit of Salford initiative – a scheme designed to celebrate the unique personality and pioneering spirit of Salford.

Spark's magic can transform anything. He'll turn the bogeys up his nose into some pink ribbons and bows. He'll make a gorgeous high heeled shoe out of a pile of donkey poo... But terrible things have started to happen in his forest. Wasps, werewolves, spells going disastrously wrong - calamities maybe not even Spark can stop...

This poetry workshop will use poetry, a little taboo vocabulary and humour in a safe way to enable self expression. The power of words can be therapeutic, comedic and uplifting. In fact you are in control of how you receive language - give it the power it deserves or don’t! There’s scientific evidence that the odd swear word can help to release tension in certain situations. If you think I am talking faeces I highly recommend ‘Forbidden Words’ by Keith Allan & Kate Burridge.
Using her own performance poetry Jenny will introduce ‘poetry for expression’. Through creative ice breakers, writing prompts and taboo vocabulary mixed with real experiences to engage in writing a poem to help vent or express something. The aim of the workshop is not to create a masterpiece poem, it is to creatively engage in language use in a way to express yourself a little differently.
Little ones and their grown-ups can get crafty with professional artist Venessa Scott, who will lead you through some fun, creative and colourful arts activities.
