Three friends are getting ready for a night out. The music is intoxicating, they start to
dance. It’s so good, they might stay a little longer…
Inspired by classic sitcoms of the 90s & 00s, DONUTS follows a group of friends as
their friendship evolves over time. DONUTS is a celebration of how music brings
people together, no matter what life throws at them. Bursting with precision and soul,
it is a hypnotic and playful ‘groove along’ to jazz and funk.
Drawing on his own relationship with music and its influence on his friendships
growing up, choreographer Jamaal Burkmar places music at the heart of his
creative process. DONUTS is the first, highly anticipated, full length dance piece
from the company behind JUKEBOX, the breakthrough Instagram series combining
popular music with their distinctive and dynamic style of dance.
Kattam Katti (meaning Cutting Through in English) is an exquisite piece of modern dance theatre rooted in the Indian Kathak dance tradition. There are eight performers - four dancers and four musicians. The musicians play specially composed music live and are integral to the show as they move around the dancers and interact with them.
The show transports its audience to Uttarayan, the world-famous kite festival that takes place in Gujarat, North India. Tales of competition, danger, excitement and unity are vividly brought to life in a joyous, colourful and uplifting show.
This neo classical work has a distinctly contemporary feel developed out of the South Asian dance tradition. Tapping into the chaos, creativity and colour of the kite festival, Kattam Katti brings to life the excitement of Uttarayan with lyricism, drama and exquisite technique. It illustrates the highs, lows, loves and losses of lives that are lived out among the festivities.
The show is suitable for all ages and backgrounds and runs for 60 minutes with no interval.
Choreographed by Urja Desai Thakore (BBC Young Dancer choreographer) and based on her personal observations of the festival and Gujarati heritage, kite flying becomes a metaphor for the inequalities of privilege in societies and in the corporate world.
Kattam Katti is performed by a new generation of British dancers of Indian heritage. Pagrav Dance Company is highly committed to nurturing the next generation by providing a supportive platform for emerging dancers.
‘a striking and exquisite work, Kattam Katti is the antidote we all need in the current climate’
Maya Pinder, The Insanity in Dancing on an early sharing
‘a work of lightness that rides the wind-soaked eddies; the crack team of musicians combine to elevate the work to a higher realm’ Ian Abbott, author, curator, academic on an early sharing
‘Pagrav Dance Theatre's latest show Kattam Katti is rich and beautifully layered, and is sure to engage both new and existing audiences. The interplay between dance, music and narrative is deftly woven and perfectly balanced, and the brilliantly designed piece is engaging, moving and playful.’

Double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Ahir Shah returns to stand-up with a new show about significance, insignificance, and scurvy. Featuring his signature blend of philosophical inquiry, personal examination, and sweet gags, Live promises to be the single greatest work of art ever named after a probably apocryphal quote from Prime Minister Harold Macmillan.
Ahir’s last show, Dots, was recorded as a special for HBO Max (albeit after a 14 month delay brought about by events you may recall). That show was about uncertainty. Ideally, this tour will end in a way that is less on the nose.
As seen on Mock The Week, Live At the Apollo, Have I Got News For You, and The Mash Report.

Oddly Moving present Atlas
Produced by Turtle Key Arts
Atlas was punished by the Gods to hold the weight of the cosmos for a long time -
perhaps an eternity. He’s not sure if he is a man or a mountain or a giant. His back
hurts. He wonders what would happen if he just let go.
Oddly Moving’s new show explores the Greek myth of Atlas interwoven with
personal stories about the metaphorical weight we each bear or let go of. Addressing
themes of choice, responsibility and the individual worlds that define us.
Directed by Charlotte Mooney of Ockham’s Razor and with Oddly Moving’s unique
blend of physical theatre, autobiographical storytelling and circus skills (with a
rudimentary understanding of physics) Atlas looks at how we each bear the weight of
our personal burdens, our what-ifs, joys, regrets and choices and asks what happens
if we let go?

Music Giuseppe Verdi
Libretto Francesco Maria Piave
First performance Venice, 1851
Rigoletto exists on the margins of a world owned by the privileged few – and is despised by them for his difference. He is in the pay of the Duke of Mantua, a man who is living proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Twisted inside by the life he has been forced to lead, Rigoletto is both feared for his sharp tongue and ridiculed for his appearance by the Duke’s entourage. The only thing he lives for is his daughter, Gilda, of whom he is obsessively protective. When, finally, a combination of bitterness and bravura get the better of him, the consequences for his most precious possession are fatal.
Verdi clothes this hard-hitting masterpiece in some of his most impassioned music. Rigoletto contains one of the most popular tenor arias of all time – the Duke’s ‘La donna è mobile – but the jauntiness of the tune takes on a much more chilling aspect in the context of a drama which explores the extremes of emotional exploitation.
This new production of Rigoletto is conducted by Opera North’s Music Director Garry Walker, and directed by one of the UK’s leading theatre artists, Femi Elufowoju Jr., who makes his opera directing debut. American baritone Eric Greene, whose previous work for Opera North includes Amonasro in Aida and Billy Bigelow in Carousel, sings the title role in a work of shattering power.

Reckless Sleepers an extraordinary company who make work between visual art, dance and theatre. This surreal, funny and carefully crafted physical performance explores the weather in all its forms and takes delight in discovering the world anew and how we experience it differently, wherever we are.

Music Georges Bizet
Libretto Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy
First performance Paris, 1875
Bizet’s masterpiece of sexual obsession and self-destruction is enduringly popular for many reasons, not the least of which is its brilliantly characterful score. It’s the story of a woman on the margins of society, driven by a fierce, uncompromising desire for personal liberty, and of a man who, in the grip of sexual obsession, tries to own her.
The opera’s frank sensuality, stark emotional realism and brutal violence outraged many in its first audiences, and it was widely condemned for its perceived immorality. Almost 150 years later, Carmen presents new challenges to contemporary sensibilities, whilst Bizet’s music – overflowing with passion, colour, energy and unforgettable melody – continues to mesmerise.
Edward Dick directs our first Carmen in ten years following his triumphant Tosca for the Company in 2018.
‘The production’s real strengths … lie in Dick’s understanding of the psychological dynamics between the protagonists … It’s compelling stuff, disquieting, creepy and exciting in equal measure.’ Tim Ashley, The Guardian, on Tosca, 2018

On an island paradise, a young man, Ruggiero, has fallen under the spell of a woman, Alcina, who is experiencing real love for the very first time. But on Alcina’s island nothing is as it seems, for she is an enchantress who transforms her discarded lovers into non-human form, and her island is a barren wasteland whose apparent beauty is maintained only by her powers of illusion. When Bradamante, Ruggiero’s fiancée, arrives on the island intent on reclaiming her lost love, Alcina’s magic is tested to breaking point.
This extraordinary tale of deception and disguise, of love and loss, of enchantment and illusion, is told in some of Handel’s most richly inventive music, such as Ruggiero’s regretful farewell to the beauty of Alcina’s island, ‘Verdi prati’.
Our first ever production of one of Handel’s most popular operas is directed by Tim Albery, responsible for a sumptuous revival of Giulio Cesare for Opera North in 2019. It reunites him with Baroque specialist Laurence Cummings, who led the Company’s highly acclaimed production of Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppea in 2014.

Following smash-hit Diamond, David Hoyle returns to The Lowry with Ten Commandments, combining his captivating stage performance with lacerating social commentary. Rioting the wrongs of contemporary Britain, Ten Commandments promises to rebalance all the inequities and injustices that surround us.

We welcome the congregation to liberate themselves and others in a thermonuclear explosion of love and also hope for what remains of the 21st century.

We Got This is the brand new show from BAFTA and Perrier award winning comedian Dylan Moran. It promises to be a joyously furious romp through the frustration and folly of modern day life.
Praise for Dylan Moran:
“He's punch-drunk, pissed off and sick of it all, but determined to at least wring as much black humour out of proceedings”
“Trumping Shakespeare, he reduces life to four ages: “Child, failure, old and dead”. Faced with one-liners as killing as that the world suddenly seems a better place.”
“His comedy takes on an existential dimension, as tubby, nicotine-starved, emasculated Moran comes to represent the struggles we all wage for meaning and connection”
“High-octane riffs from Irish master of grumpiness…spellbinding”

Candoco Dance Company returns to the stage with a double bill from two
boundary-breaking New York based choreographers.
The evening begins with Set and Reset/Reset, a recreation of Trisha Brown
Dance Company’s seminal Set and Reset. The dancers move with dream-like
fluidity within a kaleidoscopic form to a driving Laurie Anderson score in their
unique version of Trisha Brown’s choreography.
In contrast, Jeanine Durning’s Last Shelter unfolds uniquely at each
performance. Teetering at the edge of what could be in an ever-shifting
environment, this choreography highlights the velocity and precision of each
dancer’s decision-making from moment to moment, somewhere between
agency and collective will. After a year of working invisibly through a
pandemic, it is an act of intimacy to witness the labour and desire of the
dancer attending to themselves and one another, in their practice.
Distinct in form, these works share the vitality and virtuosity that promises an
unforgettable double bill from the company that continues to expand
perceptions of what dance can be.
John O'Connell’s Simply Dylan Band will be back in 2021 for a brand-new headline tour across the UK to celebrate Bob Dylan’s 80th Birthday.
As straightforward as the title suggests: no frills, no gimmicks, no pretense; Simply Dylan is John’s personal exploration and celebration of the rich and diverse work of Bob Dylan.
O'Connell, formerly of Groundpig, has had his name indelibly written into the tapestry of Liverpool's music scene, has collaborated with other highly reputable musicians to form his Dylan Band.
The combination of the band delivering high energy renditions of the prodigious songwriter’s work and John skillfully singing and enunciating the lyrics,
has seen the project go from recognising Dylan's 70th Birthday, to selling out the Cavern Club 6 times, to receiving fantastic reviews from audiences across
the UK and most recently having the privilege to open up the Isle of Wight Festival in 2019 on the big top stage.
“It is incredible to consider that Dylan has been writing and performing for some 6 decades and continues to do so right up to the present day.
The talent he has for story-telling and developing a song is extraordinary. My greatest challenge is deciphering a set-list when there is so much choice and an array
of genres to select from; after all everyone has their own personal favourite!”
Paul Merton, Richard Vranch, Suki Webster, Mike McShane and accompanist Kirsty Newton are back on the road in 2022 to visit some of their favourite parts of the UK with another evening of mind-blowing improvisation. The collective improvisational experience embodied in the Chums is a joy to behold. They flex their improvisational muscles to delight and entertain audiences in this country and abroad.
“MERTON'S CHUMS ARE SOME OF THE MOST SEASONED PERFORMERS IN THIS FIELD AND KNOW JUST HOW TO WORK THE GAMES, THE SUGGESTIONS AND THE AUDIENCE FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT. …PURE HILARITY - British Theatre Guide

ZOG AND THE FLYING DOCTORS
Based on the book by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
Zog, super keen student turned air-ambulance, still lands with a crash-bang-thump. Together with his Flying Doctor crew, Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout, they tend to a sunburnt mermaid, a unicorn with one too many horns and a lion with the flu. However, Pearl’s uncle, the King, has other ideas about whether princesses should be doctors, and she’s soon locked up in the castle back in a crown and a silly frilly dress!
With a bit of help from some friends and half a pound of cheese, can Pearl make her uncle better and prove princesses can be doctors too?
Based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s bestselling sequel, Freckle Productions (Zog, Stick Man, Tiddler & Other Terrific Tales, Tabby McTat) bring the creative team behind Zog, Emma Kilbey and Joe Stilgoe, back together for this truly modern take on the classic fairy tale.

understand their purpose here on earth. And when you embrace who and where you come from, including
your wounds, your pains and your regrets, you will discover that lurking there in the mess of life is an
invitation to expand - just as the universe has been expanding for 13 billion years.
Written in a lyrical, almost stream of consciousness style this wide-ranging book shares stories from Bell's
life to illuminate lessons about the world around you to help you find purpose, meaning and connection.
'Rob Bell might have left the church, but he will always be my minister - in the purest and most uncorrupted
sense of that word. Nobody else can take ancient teachings and modern science, and blend them together
into wisdom that makes sense to me, and heals me. Rob's unorthodox and bold thinking stirs my
intellect, comforts my heart and makes me believe that - within all the frightening chaos of the unknowable
universe - I still have a sacred place. His work is a sacred gift to a troubled world.’
Elizabeth Gilbert, New York Times bestselling author of Big Magic
Rob Bell is the New York Times bestselling author of ten books, including Velvet Elvis, Drops Like
Stars and Love Wins, which have been translated into 25 languages. His podcast, called RobCast, was in the
iTunes 'Best of 2015' list. He's toured with Oprah, has been profiled in The New Yorker, and in
2011, TIME magazine named him one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
He does regular shows at Largo, a comedy and music club in Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife
Kristen and their three kids.

From the police beat to the Hollywood movie screen to a Five Nations Grand Slam and MasterChef final, Martin Bayfield has had a varied life!
Join former England international and true giant of the game Martin Bayfield as he embarks on his ‘Rugby Legends’ UK tour.
“This is the game I want to celebrate. The game of my youth, the game that became my family, the game that took me around the world and opened the door to so many unexpected wonders.
If you’ve played the game, you’ll nod your head and chuckle. If Rugby is new to you, you’ll shake your head in disbelief. It shouldn’t work, but it does, and that’s why I love it so much.
Joining me on this journey down Amnesia Avenue will be some great names from the game. Players who have made their mark, but perhaps more importantly players who for me have added the colour and the chaos.”
Bedford 1975: a 5’4” 8-year-old Martin was finding himself useless at every sport he tried, describing his attempts at football as “woefully poor” and cricket “dangerously poor”, but swimming? “I was good at that. Slightly niche, but I’ll take it”! It would all change when a coach threw an odd-shaped ball accompanied by the wise words, “Hey, shorty, you’ll like this game”.
47 years on and Martin’s passion for the ‘insanely bonkers’ game has not diminished; now a top commentator for the sport with a successful TV and film career alongside motivational speaking work, he still relishes his playing career during the early years of the game, when internationals ran out alongside the club stalwarts and legends rubbed shoulders with the well-meaning incompetent.
The audience can expect stories with soon to be announced special guests about international games, local teams; legends emerging from coal mines, farms, police stations, classrooms, universities. Matches played on 6” of grass, mud in the winter, hard pan in the autumn and spring months. Riotous end of season tours and half cooked lasagne or chilli con carne after the game washed down with beer, then the long, meandering journey home.

Communicating with the Afterlife? What could be more mind expanding?!

Ramone is a Scottish soothsayer and spirit-channeller from the Caledonian cabaret circuit. His expertise in the Dark Arts is surpassed only in the dexterity of his cutting Glaswegian bitchiness.
Their otherworldly skills have rightly attracted audiences all over the world, but now their very public spats are threatening to undermine them. Even the Parapsychological Institute of Great Britain feel that these two silly fakirs are bringing the serious subject of Mediumship into disrepute.
Repeated requests to desist the slander have fallen on deaf ears. Both claim to be the one true mystical seer.
Buckle up for a battle of charisma, verbal one up-manship and hair raising paranormal wizardry as the two megastars meet to finally decide who holds the title as Britain’s Greatest Paranormalist.
The rancorous badinage will propel one of them onto the canvas…..and the other into the hallowed pages of the supernatural history books!
