The Lowry Centre for Advanced Training in Dance (CAT): These Open Days introduce young people to the CAT scheme, an intensive, part time,pre-vocational training programme for young people who aim to pursue a career in dance. Open to hard working young dancers aged 11-16 who are passionate and committed to a future as a dance professional. The Lowry CAT is part of a national programme funded by the Department of Education through the recognised Music and Dance Scheme & Means Tested Grants are available for students to access the programme. The funding for the CAT programme makes dance training accessible for young people who wouldn’t usually have the opportunity. Students that have graduated from The Lowry CAT have gone on to study at major UK conservatories such as Rambert School of Dance, Central School of Ballet, Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Entry to the scheme is through an audition process although the criteria will look closely at the potential of each student regardless of their previous dance experience. We will be looking for those young people who demonstrate exceptional potential, commitment and enthusiasm for dance. Students wishing to audition for the CAT are advised to first attend an Open Day. Application forms for auditions will be available from all Open Days and The Lowry website.
