Magical Bones: A Kind of Magic

A KIND OF MAGIC hosted by MAGICAL BONES

Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a bit of magic! Your sofa is the best seat in the house for this very special live and interactive magic experience.

Join your host, internationally acclaimed magician Magical Bones, fresh from his hugely successful Britain’s Got Talent appearance, as he invites you to not just watch but to take part this is truly unique show live via Zoom.  Plus if that wasn’t enough we’ll bring special guest appearances with exclusive draw dropping performances from some of the hottest names in contemporary magic and circus.

What do I need to take part?
• You will need to have registered with Zoom and have a username that matches the name under which your ticket was purchased (for this reason please do not buy multiple tickets under the same name).  Registration with Zoom is free and you can login to the show using the unique ID and password which we will issue on the day of the show.
• An e-package which we will send you on the day along with an ID – this contains features which will assist in your taking part in certain elements of the show.
• A pack of playing cards – this is for one of the items in the show we invite you to join us to take part in.

Just one ticket for all the household?
Yes that’s right, each ticket entitles you to watch on one screen – phone, tablet, or laptop - regardless of how many people are watching that screen. Please note we do admit people using their user name and password, so if you have friends planning to watch on a separate screen they will need to buy a separate ticket.

Will everyone be able to see/hear me?
You have the ability to disable your own camera and microphone in the app and on the website. At certain point of the show the host will invite people to take part in certain elements of the show, and by making your camera live you give your consent to us ‘spotlighting’ you, meaning you will be seen/heard by other people watching the show.  If you don’t want to do this then there is plenty of other stuff you can still take part in, but obviously it adds to the experience if you have the opportunity to talk to the host directly if invited.  Recording of the show is strictly prohibited, however by having your microphone and camera live you indemnify the producers, performers and venues against any liability whatsoever in the event your likeness, name (which may show on screen) or voice are recorded by a third party.

An Evening With Paul Scholes
A evening with one the greatest to ever play the beautiful game but don't just take our word for it, here is what other legends had to say about Paul Scholes......

Pele:
"If he was playing with me, I would have scored so many more."

Zinedine Zidane:
"My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder."

Luis Figo:
"I’m star-struck when I see Paul Scholes because you never see him. On the pitch you can’t catch him. Off the pitch he disappears."

Edgar Davids:
"I’m not the best, Paul Scholes is."

Xavi:
"In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen – the most complete – is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more."

Patrick Vieira:
"The player in the Premiership I admire most? Easy – Scholes."

Roy Keane:
"An amazingly gifted player who remained an unaffected human being."

Laurent Blanc:
"I tell anyone who asks me – Scholes is the best English player."

Thierry Henry:
"I can’t understand why Scholes has never won the player of the year award. He should have won it long ago. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t seek the limelight like some of the other ‘stars’."

This exclusive show will see a LIVE & UNSCRIPTED 2 part interview, reminiscing about those glorious football memories and get an real life insight to the behind the scenes at the clubs he has played for. Who knows what will happen when Paul Scholes hits the stage to give you ‘off the camera’ life and career stories.
Some fans will have the opportunity to meet Paul before the show for a meet and greet which includes a Q&A and the chance to bring your own to be signed. (Paintings excluded)
Gold Ticket holders will be able to have a photo with Paul Scholes during a pre show photo session

I'm Sorry Prime Minister

Former Prime Minister Jim Hacker longs to see out his days from his grand Master’s Lodge at Hacker College, Oxford. The College Fellowship and Students have very different ideas and eviction looms large. Can SirHumphrey Appleby, the PM’s former Cabinet Secretary save the day one last time? Will it be Yes, Prime Minister or I’m Sorry, Prime Minister?

The final hilarious chapter in the classic Yes, Prime Minister series continues its biting satire on the political classes and provides a fitting final chapter to the Hacker years.

Starring acclaimed British actor Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Amadeus, Shakespeare in Love) as Jim Hacker and Clive Francis (An Inspector Calls, Les Blancs, The Crown) as Sir Humphrey Appleby. This brand-new production is penned and directed by one of the original writers of the Yes, Prime Minister television series Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny, Nuns On The Run).

Dave Spikey - A Funny Thing Happened
Funny things happen all the time. Normal events don’t catch the eye but Dave’s special radar instinctively draws him to the small out-of-the-ordinary events and conversations that wash over most of us and pass us by. Once identified, he applies his unique style of exaggerating and elaborating them whilst reminding us that we too have not only witnessed them, it’s probably happened to us! It’s this added dimension, this comedy of association that elevates the event to laugh-out-loud funny.

No wonder Time Out magazine said of him, “Not only a very funny comedian but one of the finest raconteurs around.”

Giraffes Can't Dance

Simon Friend presents a Curve and Rose Theatre Kingston production

in association with Hachette Children’s Group and Coolabi Group

GIRAFFES CAN’T DANCE

Based on the bestselling book by GILES ANDREAE & GUY PARKER-REES

Gerald the Giraffe has a tall, thin neck and long, slim legs. He’s great at reaching the highest shoots on the tallest trees, but he’s not so good at dancing. Now the annual Jungle Dance is just around the corner, and Gerald is longing to join the waltzing warthogs, rock’n’rolling rhinos and cha-cha cha-ing chimps on the dancefloor. But everyone knows that giraffes can’t dance… or can they?

A much-loved book for over 20 years, Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees’ African jungle bursts to life with songs and a company of four playing warthogs, lions, rhinos, chimps – and a very special violin-playing cricket.

Perfect for audiences aged 2+, Giraffes Can’t Dance encourages everyone to dance to their own rhythm, and to just be a little more Gerald.

The Dublin Legends
“Alive-Alive Oh!”

Following the sudden death of founding member Barney McKenna in 2012 and John Sheahans’ decision to retire it was agreed that The Dubliners, as a touring band, would come to an end and THE DUBLIN LEGENDS were born.

THE DUBLIN LEGENDS, Sean Cannon, Paul Watchorn, Gerry O’Connor & Shay Kavanagh, have over 100 years of performing experience between them and Sean was the lead singer with The Dubliners for over 30 of them! They will, of course, continue to play all the classic songs and ballads known the world over; Whiskey in The Jar, Dirty Old Town, The Wild Rover, Seven Drunken Nights, The Rare Auld Times, Molly Malone, The Irish Rover, Black Velvet Band & many more.

In 2017 guitarist and founder, Eamonn Campbell, passed away while they were on tour in Holland. Even though he had been in poor health it was still a massive shock. The lads asked an old friend, Shay Kavanagh, if he would like to come on the road with them and, thankfully, Shay readily agreed. Shay is a stalwart of the Irish Folk Music scene. He was a founding member of General Humbert with the great Mary Black and has played with The Dublin City Ramblers for many years.

It was Eamonn’s wish that the band continue touring and finish off recording the album they had been working on. This is a follow-up to “The Dublin Sessions” which featured 16 newly recorded tracks and included some old favourites & classics that the lads wanted to get down on disc…The Leaving of Liverpool, Schooldays Over, Pub with No Beer, Rambling Rover, Hand Me Down My Bible and some scorching tunes from Gerry O’Connor: Billy in The Low Ground / The Temperance Reel

In the past seven years the band have continued the legacy of The Dubliners by travelling far and wide playing concerts to a whole new generation of Irish music fans. They have wowed audiences in Iceland, Norway, Finland, The Faroe Islands, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland and all over England, Scotland & Wales.
This band are the REAL DEAL so make sure you join THE DUBLIN LEGENDS on their 2019 UK Tour for a night full of songs and stories and the odd pint of Guinness!

Tommy Fleming
For almost 30 years, Tommy Fleming has been honing his craft and entertaining the masses with his extraordinary talent. His worldwide success has made him a household name in many homes across the globe and his fanbase is growing year on year. It’s not hard to see why; music is a universal language and one Tommy is undoubtedly fluent in.

The one comment that is repeated from Dublin to Darwin and beyond, is the incredible effect Tommy’s voice has as he turns each song into his own with his unique and powerful style - touching emotions in you that only music can reach. While Tommy’s music may be difficult to classify, fans use such words as “deeply emotional, romantic and sincere” to describe the feelings it evokes. One reviewer described his music as falling into a genre of Symphonic Pop that still awaits a name. A Tommy Fleming concert is a musical experience not to be missed that has a universal appeal to all ages and backgrounds.

Tommy is famous for his own arrangement of “Danny Boy”, “Isle of Inisfree” and “Hard Times” - all songs that you know and love but have never heard until you hear Tommy Fleming’s versions. He also covers songs from “You Raise Me Up”, “Bridge over Troubled Waters”, “From a Distance” and “Something Inside so Strong” along with many more contemporary numbers.

uch is his success, he has also toured with the great Elaine Paige and Kenny Rogers in recent years and recorded duets with Vince Gill, Christy Hennessy, Phil Coulter, Lucie Silvas, Cara Dillon, Eleanor Shanley, De Dannan and Mark Vincent to name but a few.

Tommy brings his Voice of Hope II tour to the UK in the Spring of 2020.

Robert White - Tank Top Tour
Following on from the success of Britain’s Got Talent 2018, and his debut comedy Tour ‘The Tank Top Tour - 2019’, unique and hilarious musical comedian, Robert White, brings you more, but this time with a little of his personal journey, life ups and downs and some quirky tales into the bargain.

Tank Top Tour: Take Two - 'Troubles and Treats'

Robert White, that gay autistic keyboard-wielding comedian who you've almost forgotten [from Britain's Got Talent 2018], fresh off the heels of his debut tour last year, brings you his unique form of musical stand-up in a laugh packed hour, but this time with a little more edge, a little more personal revelation and a whole new tank top. Just him, some jokes, some songs, a keyboard and maybe a personal trouble or comedic treat, or two.

Robert is probably the only Asperger, dyslexic, cross lateral, gay, quarter-Welsh, webbed-toed comedian on the circuit...probably. This Edfringe White brings you more of the fun you saw on telly.... plus lots of extra naughty bits.

Grace Campbell: Why I'm Never Going Into Politics
Grace Campbell is a force to be reckoned with. From a very young age, Grace has been taking on powerful men. She started with her father Alastair Campbell and his ex-boss Tony Blair, when she was growing up in and around Westminster.  Since then Grace has challenged the patriarchy with her feminist collective The Pink Protest. And now, she wants to have a friendly fight with the world she grew up in; politics.

In Grace’s debut stand-up show, you can expect vagina jokes, why she thinks she caused Brexit, anecdotes of hanging out with Putin’s kids, plus trying (and failing) to bring the Labour Party back together Grace is rude, laugh-out-loud funny and wildly outspoken.

As seen on Channel 4 & BBC Politics Live.

Josie Long
Three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee and very-hard-to-pin-down-indie-underdog-nightmare Josie Long is back with a brand new show after a brief hiatus, during which she had a baby and so on.

How do you bring someone into a world that everyone keeps telling you is ending? This show is about the mind-bending intensity of new motherhood, but mostly about kindness, gentleness, and joy - all in all, the edgiest thing you will see this year. The aim is for you to come out of it feeling optimistic about the future, although that is a big ask. At the very least there will be some really silly voices in it, and that’s not nothing.

Akram Khan – Xenos

Out of all the creations I have been blessed to be involved in, XENOS is the one that I find to be the closest in line with my personal journey as an artist.

The themes of reflection, death, rebirth, time, alienation, identity, memory, are all part of this creative process, and together with some incredible collaborators, I have embarked on this challenging journey, to give birth to XENOS.

Essentially, this work is a reflection of how I feel about our world today. It is about our loss of humanity, and how, through past and present wars, we are yet again confronted by the burning question of what it is to be human. How can we as humans, have such ability to create extraordinary and beautiful things from our imagination, and equally, our immense ability to create and commit violence and horrors beyond our imagination.

Prometheus saw this in mankind before we, as a species, ever recognised it.

Contra
Drawing from circus, stand-up and live art, Contra is a solo-cabaret of contradictions. Fierce, witty and uncompromising, this highly physical show interrogates personal, social and historical occupations of the female body and explores, literally, where such bodies are positioned and how we are meant to look at them. Expect scenes of nudity, aerial acrobatics, and explicit references to mythical reptiles and female sexuality.

Laura Murphy is a genre-defying queer performance maker from Bristol who makes text-driven and dynamic physical work about things that she thinks need to be talked about. Her work is cross-disciplinary fusion of theatre, live art, aerial choreography, dance and verbal explosions, which integrates intimacy and spectacle.

Laura is a CircusNext Laureate 2018-19 (European programme coordinated by Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe and supported by the European Union) and PhD candidate at the University of Sheffield, researching aerial work as critical performance.

Age Guidance: 18+ Contains nudity, strong language and frank discussions of sex and the body

Wuthering Heights

by Emily Brontë, adapted by Emma Rice

A National Theatre and Wise Children co-production in association with York Theatre Royal

A romantic revenge tragedy.

Rescued from the Liverpool docks as a child, Heathcliff is adopted into the Earnshaws’ farmhouse home of Wuthering Heights.

Lost in his new surroundings, he finds a kindred spirit in Catherine Earnshaw, and their fierce love ignites.  But when forced apart, they unleash a brutal chain of events that will haunt generations to come.

Shot through with music, dance, passion and hope, Emma Rice (Romantics Anonymous, Wise Children, Brief Encounter) transforms Emily Brontë’s masterpiece into a uniquely theatrical experience. Lucy McCormick (Post Popular) and John Pfumojena (Peter Pan) lead the company of performers and musicians.

Egg
What does it take to make a baby? An accident / right timing / a drunken night / right people / right parts? But what if you don’t have all the right parts? Or you do, and one of them is broken. As it turns out, some things are un-mendable.

Egg is a powerful and evocative new aerial theatre production from acclaimed circus theatre company Paper Doll Militia, a highly visual exploration of female fertility, sexuality and choice. Weaving together personal testimony, live original music and stunning aerial artistry, the piece takes audiences on a deeply personal and political journey, following the true story of a woman who gave her eggs to her friend to have a child.

Paper Doll Militia’s innovative approach to choreography and poignant use of theatricality have gained the company the reputation of being pioneers in original aerial theatre. The Company was formed in Santa Fe, New Mexico (USA) in 2006, relocated to California in 2008, and set up their UK base in Edinburgh in 2013. Referred to as “The sophisticated circus of now” (Edinburgh Review), their work seamlessly weaves high octane aerial arts and visual theatre into a contemporary circus spectacle.

Ned Boulting *Cancelled*
RETOUR DE NED - GET BIKE RACING DONE!

After a year away from the front line, ITV’s Tour de France commentator Ned Boulting returns with a fresh assault on our cycling senses.

The cleverly pun-based “Retour de Ned – Get Bike Racing Done” is an indispensable theatrical road map for anyone aspiring to wear the yellow jumper* on the Champs Elysée: a really very rough guide to the tactics (pedal faster) and challenges (not pedalling fast enough) which will need to be deployed to win the biggest bike race in the world. Along the way, there will be time to call to mind the greatest racers of the age, and to do hopelessly bad impressions of them. There will be scope to celebrate all that is French about France, and all that is Tourish about the Tour: Stuff like ignoring 12th century cathedrals, peeing at the side of the road, pushing spectators over, punching demonstrators and generally behaving like a shaven-legged hooligan for a month while riding over entire mountain ranges.

So come along for another ride through the peaks and troughs of the silliest and the grandest month of the year, as Ned hands out his copious, thoroughly unreliable, advice on How To Win The Tour de France.

He’s back for more comedy chaos! Jason has learnt over the past few years that we all need to “play” a bit more in our lives.

Carlos Pons - Mariposa

Mariposa: a Transgender Tragedy Inspired by Puccini’s Madame Butterfly

Under the flickering neon lights of a distant Caribbean port, a local rent boy and a foreign sailor fall ominously in love in choreographer Carlos Pons Guerra’s inventive reimagining of Puccini’s seminal opera. DeNada Dance Theatre’s Madame Butterfly is immersed in a mist of Havana smoke, within which a young man is asked to sacrifice his gender in exchange of love and a better life.

Mariposa is an operatic dance drama that transports Puccini’s Orientalist libretto to post-revolution Cuba, to a dockland world of faded showgirls, hopeful rent boys, troubled sailors and santeria spirits.  Engulfed in a tropical storm of repressed desires, this brand new production is a passionate and deeply moving exploration of what we are ready to sacrifice in order to be loved and accepted.

Set to an original score by Spanish composer Luis Miguel Cobo, which takes its inspiration from Caribbean sounds as well as Puccini, with libretto by French-Indian writer Karthika Nair and designs by Ryan Laight, Mariposa is performed by the diverse international cast of DeNada Dance Theatre, a UK Critic’s Circle National Dance Awards nominee in the category of Best Independent Company.

Running time: Approx. 1 hour 30 mins (including interval)

Age guidance: 12+ due to scenes and content of a sexual nature

Mariposa has been commissioned by Birmingham Dance Hub and Spin Arts, with further support from DanceXchange and the British Council. The creation and tour of Mariposa is also funded by Arts Council England.

From his A House for Essex, a permanent building constructed in the North Essex countryside in 2015, to Grayson Perry’s Big American Road Trip, a three-part documentary travelogue in which he explores the meaning of the American Dream today, to be broadcast by Channel 4 in 2020, Perry is somewhat an expert in making lemonade out of the mundanity of life.

Let Grayson take you through an enlightening and eye-watering evening in which this kind of existentialism descends from worthiness to silliness. You’ll leave safe and warm in the knowledge that nothing really matters anyway.

Join Grayson as he asks, and possibly answers, these big questions in an evening sure to distract you from the very meaninglessness of life in the way only a man in a dress can.

Opera North - La Traviata

Giuseppe Verdi

Violetta's high-life is about to turn upside down...

A Parisian courtesan, to her surprise, falls in love. But she cannot escape the consequences of her past life, and circumstances
conspire to force her to sacrifice what may be her only chance of real happiness.

Verdi poured some of his most heartfelt music into this intimate story of family tensions, blighted love and a society rotten with hypocrisy. The result is one of opera's most profoundly moving masterpieces, both angry and tender. Director Alessandro Talevi and designer Madeleine Boyd (The Turn of the Screw, Don Giovanni) set this riveting production of La traviata in Belle Époque Paris.

Opera North - Jack The Ripper: The Women of Whitechapel
London, 1888. Terror is stalking the streets…

A vulnerable community of women lives in the dark shadow of poverty, vice and violence in the twisted labyrinth of the East End. Maud runs a dosshouse with her granddaughter Mary Kelly, who hopes to find a better life with her child and the local boy she loves. But while she tries to plan their escape, an unseen killer embarks on a series of brutal murders, sending the neighbourhood into a fever-pitch of fear and mistrust.

Iain Bell’s score for this new opera uses the eerie sound of the cimbalom to evoke the swirling London fog, while his writing for female chorus conjures up the bonds of comfort, friendship and love between the women.

Daniel Kramer directs a powerful cast including Dame Josephine Barstow, Lesley Garrett and Elin Pritchard.

Laura Lexx: Knee Jerk
Star of Live at the Apollo (BBC Two), Hypothetical (Dave) and Roast Battle (Comedy Central), 'tour-de-force’ ★★★★ (Telegraph) Laura Lexx shines a light on how hard it is to be a good person these days. Why don’t we just leave each other alone and get on with the big stuff?

Following a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe which earned her a prestigious Comedian's Choice Award for the second year in a row, Lexx has a laugh with society's big issues: social media, mental health, climate change and conceiving...but come for the jokes, not answers.

Opera North - Double Bill (Symphonic Dances & Trouble in Tahiti)
Bernstein Double Bill

Bernstein’s thrilling music accompanies a brand new dance piece in collaboration with Phoenix Dance Theatre, together with his darkly funny satire in which the 1950s American dream turns sour.

TROUBLE IN TAHITI
Leonard Bernstein

The American Dream turned suffocatingly sour.

Bernstein’s one-act opera is an unsparing examination of a marriage falling apart in 1950s suburbia. Sam and Dinah appear to have the perfect life in their ‘little white house’. But their growing failure to connect exposes a mutual feeling that they are trapped in a life that has turned into a lie.

Bernstein’s score is heavily influenced by the syncopated rhythms of jazz and by the distinctive American vernacular of musicals and the movies. A highlight of Opera North’s Little Greats season in 2017, Matthew Eberhardt’s production of Trouble in Tahiti is deeply touching, whilst giving full value to the Hollywood pizzazz of Dinah’s showpiece number ‘Island Magic’.

WEST SIDE STORY SYMPHONIC DANCES
Leonard Bernstein

A major collaboration with Phoenix Dance Theatre.

Bernstein’s West Side Story broke new ground in many ways. It responded to the newly contemporary issue of gang violence in American cities, and the story-telling was driven by dance.

The composer himself arranged the Symphonic Dances as a work to stand on its own, free of the story of the show. Taking this as her cue, choreographer Aletta Collins creates a dance work which interprets Bernstein’s thrilling and poignant music outside of the narrative of West Side Story. This entirely new piece will explore the experience of young people through themes of group identity and family, conflict and violence, but also the dream of a better life, somewhere.

Gabrielle - 20th Anniversary of Rise
One of the UK’s most successful singer-songwriters, Gabrielle returned to the top of her game with her 2018 album ‘Under My Skin’. The album debuted at #7 on the Official Album Chart and represented her highest-charting studio set since ‘Rise’ spent three weeks at #1 eighteen years earlier.
Boosted by Radio 2 support that saw Gabrielle receive Record of the Week and A-list additions for 3 of her latest singles, the campaign reminded the world of Gabrielle’s distinctive vocal gift – one that flourishes with equal measures of soul and emotion.

Having successfully proven herself all over again, Gabrielle is now set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the smash hit ‘Rise’ album with the confirmation of the ‘Rise Again Tour 2020’. The tour will see Gabrielle playing  songs from the album, along with other iconic hits and fan favourites.

“I’m so excited about going on the road and celebrating 20 years of the ‘Rise’ album being released. I’m looking forward to performing songs from ‘Rise’ alongside lots of my other favourites and of course I could never end a show without playing ‘Dreams’, its going to be a big party full of good vibes and memories” says Gabrielle.

Released late in 1999, ‘Rise’ shot back into the charts when its title-track spent two weeks at #1 the following February. The album then spent three weeks at #1 during an eleven-week run in the Top 10, before again returning to the Top 10 in the summers of 2000 and 2001. The album was eventually certified 4 x Platinum in recognition of more than 1.2 million sales.

‘Rise’ featured five of Gabrielle’s biggest hits: the title track (#1), ‘Out Of Reach’ (#4),  ‘When A Woman’ (#6), ‘Sunshine’ (#9) and ‘Should I Stay’ (#13).

Jon Boden and The Remnant Kings
Jon Boden has become the ‘stand out performer of his generation’ (The Guardian) of traditional folk artists, but one whose repertoire extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre.
He is best known as the lead singer and main arranger of the progressive folk juggernaut Bellowhead.  After twelve years, a quarter of a million album sales, seven singles on the Radio 2 playlist and selling out hundreds of venues throughout the land and beyond, including notably the Royal Albert Hall, Jon announced in 2015 that he wanted to move on.  The rest of the band decided not to continue without him.  Bellowhead played their final gig on May 1st 2016.

In 2009, Jon founded his band The Remnant Kings, originally formed to perform the album ’Songs from the Floodplain’. The performances combined the post-apocalyptic concept of the album, with other songs that might survive the apocalypse. In this genre busting mix, Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings performed concerts where folk songs, Bach, Pop and Jazz all rubbed shoulders with Jon’s own songs. This was all augmented by the use on stage of two wax cylinder players, which played specially recorded material.

The band went into hibernation for several years whilst Bellowhead hit top gear, but were reunited and relaunched to record ‘Afterglow’ in 2017, Jon’s first new album after leaving Bellowhead. The band features the talents of former Bellowhead band-mates Sam Sweeney and Paul Sartin, plus Leveret’s Rob Harbron and Ben Nicholls and Richard Warren (King of The South Seas). They are also joined for some dates by an exceptional string and brass section including players from the award-winning Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band.

‘Afterglow’ was released in October 2017 continuing Jon’s explorations of a post-oil world, this time following the course of two lovers over the night of a city carnival.  The first single from the album ‘All The Stars Are Coming Out Tonight’ was playlisted on BBC Radio 2.Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings is Sam Sweeney and Paul Sartin, Rob Harbron, Ben Nicholls and Richard Warren with brass and string sections joining them for bigger shows.

Rhys James: Snitch
Mock The Week regular and star of his own BBC Radio 4 series, Rhys James heads out on his first national tour.

In early 2019, Rhys was asked to go back to his school and inspire the Year 11s. Given that teenagers are a nightmare and there was no fee, he ghosted the teacher who had emailed. Bit of a shame really, given that he's figured out the true circle of life, has solved parenting despite having zero children, and even thinks he can predict the curriculum of schools in 50 years. Maybe he'll inspire some Year 11s in 2069.

As also seen on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle, Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central, and heard on Radio 4’s The News Quiz.

Here he comes again, trotting on to the stage with all of the misplaced confidence of a waiter with no pad. Is he going to remember it? OH YES HE IS. There'll be lots of talking, some apologising and some songs on a glued together plastic keyboard from 1986.

Stewart Lee - Snowflake/Tornado
Double-bill of two new 60 minute sets, back to back nightly from “the world’s greatest living stand-up” (Times).

Tornado questions Stew’s position in the comedy marketplace after Netflix mistakenly lists his show as “reports of sharks falling from the skies are on the rise again. Nobody on the Eastern Seaboard is safe.”

Snowflake questions Stew’s worth in a society demolishing the liberal values he has been keen to espouse in a fairy-tale landscape of winter wonder.

Opera North - Carmen

A masterpiece of obsession and self-destruction.

Bizet's enduringly popular opera tells the story of a woman on the margins of society, driven by a fierce, uncompromising desire for personal liberty, and of a man who, in the grip of sexual obsession, tries to own her.

Its sensuality, stark emotional realism and brutal violence outraged many in its first audiences, and it was widely condemned. Almost 150 years later, Carmen still presents a challenge to contemporary sensibilities, whilst Bizet’s music – overflowing with passion, colour, energy and unforgettable melody – continues to mesmerise.

Garry Walker conducts his first production as Opera North’s Music Director, and Edward Dick directs, following his triumphant Tosca in 2018.

Opera North - Alcina

A young man, Ruggiero, has fallen under the spell of a woman, Alcina, on an island paradise. But Alcina is an enchantress who transforms her discarded lovers into non-human form, and her island is actually a barren wasteland whose apparent beauty is maintained only by her powers of illusion. When Bradamante, Ruggiero’s fiancée, arrives in disguise, intent on reclaiming her lost love, Alcina’s magic is tested to breaking point.

This extraordinary tale of deception and disguise, of love and loss, of enchantment and illusion, is told in some of Handel’s most richly inventive music, such as Ruggiero’s regretful farewell to the beauty of the island, ‘Verdi prati’.

Opera North - The Golden Girl of the West

Giacomo PucciniGiacomo Puccini

A gun-toting tale of true love and second chances.

Set against the backdrop of the tough life of a gold-mining community on the American frontier during the California Gold Rush, this opera has been called the original Spaghetti Western. It boasts what is perhaps Puccini’s most innovative score, and surely his richest orchestrally.

His peerless melodic gift and capacity for creating local colour is a perfect match for this tale of a love triangle involving Dick Johnson, aka the bandit Ramerrez, Sheriff Jack Rance and Minnie, the Girl of the Golden West ('La fanciulla del West') who runs the Polka saloon. Antony Hermus, who conducted electrifying performances of Tosca in 2018, conducts Aletta Collins’ widely admired production.

Andy Parsons – Healing The Nation
Tour extended due to popular demand!

‘It was 24th June 2016 and I found myself contemplating a supermarket meal deal. I only wanted a sandwich and I only needed a sandwich but given that I could get a snack and a drink for only 5p more it seemed financially irresponsible not to. I had spent so long pondering the EU Referendum result from the day before that I was now in a massive rush.  The lad on the till scanned the first two items no problem but the third item he couldn’t get to scan at all. I thought this is going to be a nightmare – there was a queue building up and he looked like he was going to call the supervisor. Then to his credit, he tried to scan it one more time, it wouldn’t scan – so he went ‘bip’ himself and chucked it through. And it was at that moment I thought “oh we’ll be alright as a country we will”.
And we will be alright. Trust me. I’m not a politician.’

As seen on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, Q.I. etc. - and repeated on Dave.

Titania McGrath
Feelings don’t care about your facts…

Titania McGrath is a world-renowned millennial icon and radical intersectionalist poet committed to feminism, social justice and armed peaceful protest, and she’s coming to show you – yes, YOU – why you are wrong about everything!

MXINFESTO takes the form of a confrontational lecture in which Titania guides her audience through the, often bewildering, array of terminology and concepts that constitute 21stcentury “wokeness”. New words such as “manterrupting”, “microaggressions” and “heteronormativity” often leave the general public bemused, particularly if they don’t read the Guardian.

Having conquered the world of social media, Titania is now generously bestowing her wisdom onto a live audience. Her step-by-step guide will enable her audience to become the woke people they need to be in an increasingly progressive world. In a non-patronising manner, Titania will explain where exactly they are going wrong and how to be more like her.

Ladykiller
A hotel room, a chambermaid and a dead woman. It’s not what it looks like, really, it’s not. It was self-defence... and anyway the woman was asking for it.

The chambermaid considers herself to be a pretty normal person; she reads books. She pretended to read the party manifestos at the General Election. She’s even read The Psychopath Test and she’s pretty sure she’s not one so...

After rave reviews and sold out shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2018 and Vault Festival 2019, Ladykiller is a blood- soaked morality tale about victimhood, power and flipping the gender rule book on psychopathy. Charting one woman’s journey from violent oppression to bloody revolution, it is the (gruesome) quintessential jet-black comedy for the age of the gig economy.

Steve Harley Acoustic Band
Widely considered one of the most charismatic performers on stage, Steve Harley continues to play to sold-out venues across the UK and Europe.
For Steve, life on the road is more than just a job: it is almost his life’s blood.

And with the February 2020 release of the all-acoustic CD, “UNCOVERED”, the original Cockney Rebel shows no sign of slowing down.
The Acoustic Band for 2020 will find Steve supported by long-standing violinist/guitarist Barry Wickens, Oli Hayhurst on double bass, with Dave Delarre on lead guitar.

Steve has been playing Live shows around the world for over 45 years and the thrill of another night in another place to another audience has not dimmed at all.

“We have real adventures on tour, “says Steve. “I’ve seen the Northern Lights, the Midnight Sun and dozens of wonderful galleries, museums and great cities, all on my down-time. I have a great life as a Wandering Minstrel!”

“UNCOVERED” includes a re-recording of Steve’s own highly-esteemed song “Love, Compared With You” with a newly composed third verse, plus his thus-far unrecorded “Only You”, and nine other songs he’s always wanted to perform. The album features Barry Wickens on viola and acoustic guitar, Oli Hayhurst on double bass, Tom Hooper on percussion and the Roots Music Legend, Martin Simpson, on guitar. Steve also sings a duet with the amazing Scottish singer, Eddi Reader.

The acoustic sets for 2020 will include songs from the new CD, plus a selection from the vast and eclectic Harley Songbook. Mr Soft, Judy Teen, Sebastian and the legendary Make Me Smile will all be re-produced in the unique acoustic style.
Close-Up Culture stated: “It was an intimate night in the presence of a great musician. An individual whose passion for live performance and perfection (it shows in his face) remains undiminished.”

Rod Stewart, who covered Steve’s song “A Friend For Life”, describes him as “One of the finest lyricists Britain has produced.”
MOJO said simply, “Harley creates rock songs that are proud, lyrical and full of yearning.”  Steve has also been described as “A consummate performer at the top of his game,” and this show will bear that out.

Steve received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Acoustic Music from the Acoustic Festival of Britain in 2018.

He was also the editor of Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories. His pieces regularly appear in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” There are over ten million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages. These plays include Stump the Host, Stitches, One Woman Shoe, which received an Obie Award, Incident at Cobbler’s Knob, and The Book of Liz, which was published in book form by Dramatists Play Service.

Sedaris’s original audio pieces can often be heard on the public radio show This American Life. He has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. The Killer Question
The Silence Of The Lambs meets Last Of The Summer Wine in dark comedy thriller The Killer Question. Former game show champion Walter Crump lives for murder (it was even his specialist subject on the nerve shredding, general knowledge quiz show The Chair). But did his obsession with death ultimately lead to his own? That’s certainly what Inspector Black believes, and now it is Crump’s dopey widow Margaret who finds herself in the chair – accused of her husband’s murder.
But as shocking details emerge about the events leading up to Walter’s final head to head, it quickly transpires that what started out as an open and shut case has turned into another game altogether: the cat and mouse variety, with more than one deadly twist in the tale.
Will Inspector Black solve the mystery? Will Margaret be home in time for Country File? Who will prove to be the ultimate victim of The Chair? And, just as important, which actor will play which character… the audience decides!
